CRESPI D’ADDA: VILLAGGIO OPERAIO

CRESPI D’ADDA: LABORER VILLAGE
Annexed to the cotton mill, it rises in 1877 near Adda river and neighbouring Capriate San Gervasio for work of the homonymous manufacturer. The village, constructed on print of the English building trade, is the first testimony of the typical paternalistic ideology of the Italian imprenditoria of second eight hundred. To notice the hierarchical disposition of the houses that previews sopraelevate on hills the manufacturer castle and the houses of the doctor and the parish priest, down below the laborers houses aligned and distinguished from those of employees and leaders. In the village there are also the cemetary, the church, the school, the shop.
“The better moments of the day are for the provident manufacturer those in which he sees the sturdy children of its laborers to run about for bloomed garden… to have recreation in gardening…” Silvio Benigno Crespi. From these words it’s e
asy to understand the recreational purpose of gardening and to venture the birth of the future “Horticultural Therapy”. Gardens are nowadays rich of spectacular plants: red maple trees, orange flowers, rose-bushes, olive trees.
Interesting tourist goal, the Crespi village in spite of face leaves of the Protect World-wide Patrimony of the Unesco is strangely difficult to reach due to the absence of street indications from Vaprio and Trezzo!

CRESPI D'ADDA : VILLAGE OUVRIER
